At the Cronulla Caringbah Sharks, our League Tag program delivers all the excitement, fitness and teamwork of rugby league—without the hard tackles. Open to all ages and abilities, our League Tag competitions are perfect for players who love the game but prefer a non-contact format. Here’s everything you need to know:

Open & Over 30

11-a-side non-contact; separate “Open” and “30+” grades

Men’s League Tag

11-a-side non-contact; separate “Open” and “35+” grades

  1. Game Format & Rules
  • Team Size: 11 players on field, unlimited interchanges.
  • Tagging: Defenders remove one of two tags on the ball-carrier’s belt—no body contact.
  • Duration:
    • Juniors (U6–U12): 2 × 20 minute halves
    • Youth & Open: 2 × 25 minute halves
    • Masters (Women 30+; Men 35+): 2 × 25 minute halves
  • Season Blocks: 8–10 weeks of regular fixtures, followed by finals for top-placed teams.
  • Safe Play: Modified rules ensure safe starts, controlled scrums/tap-starts, and clear off-field protocols.
  1. Coaching & Support
  • Qualified Tag Coaches: All teams are led by coaches accredited through NSWRL’s Blues Tag program.
  • Skills Clinics: Mid-season “Tag Technique” workshops reinforce core skills—bagging, passing and spatial awareness.
  • Referee Development: Each game features a trained, neutral referee to promote fair play and consistency.
